Volvos Mobile App Awarded

At the recent BusinessCar Fleet Technology Awards The Techies, Volvo won its third award for technological innovation. In the past Volvo has won the same award for its City Safety and Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake systems. This time around it was Volvos mobile phone application that impressed the judging panel.

Volvo's mobile app works hand in hand with Volvo's On call telematics technology which will be fitted to all new Volvo models coming out this year for 2012. On Call enables the user to communicate with an operator at the touch of a button, this provides the driver with vocal assistance as well as being able to contact and guide the emergency services to the vehicle in the event of an accident or breakdown.

Conveniently the mobile phone app will allow the driver to communicate with their Volvo from where ever they have mobile network coverage. The app is available for the Apple iPhone and Android powered smart phones.

Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO at Volvo Car Corporation was proud to win the award and said, "We design cars around people's needs and lifestyle. Creating an intuitive and ergonomically optimised driver's environment is part of our aim to offer a feeling of relaxed control. It is only logical that you should feel in command of your vehicle, including after you have parked it."

Other features of the app include:

Car locator. If needed the location of the car is displayed on a map, alongside a digital compass to point the driver in the right direction. The car horn and indicators can be activated to aid in the search.

Car check. The mobile app performs a "health" check of the car, displaying information about bulbs, brake fluid level, coolant level, engine oil level and engine oil pressure.
